Revisiting the Harry Potter Movies

harry-potter-logoIt’s been a very long time since I’ve seen any of the HP movies. I’ve never actually watched them all back to back (more or less. I don’t have 20 hours all at once to dedicate.) So, I thought I’d revisit childhood a bit and watch them all within a week and see what it’s like to watch them again as an adult.

Here are random thoughts while watching the first two of the series.

Paint the pain: Frida Kahlo

Halloween 2013 I dressed as Frida Kahlo. At the time, I was rushed to throw together a costume for a friend’s party and looking up easy to do costume’s online, I saw a Frida idea that I knew I had every piece of the costume for except for some flowers for my hair. So I ran to the store and bought some clips from the little girl hair section to complete the costume. The most I knew about Frida Kahlo at the time was that she was a painter and mostly did/was known for her self portraits. I knew she was an icon. That is all.

My Frida inspired costume Halloween 2013.

Oops, I did it again

Whoopsies, I’ve been gone a while, haven’t I?

I’m going to admit something here. I’m notorious (at least to myself and close friends who know this about me) for starting a blog in a creative and inspired rush and doing well with it for no more than a month. Then, when I get the lazy bug in me and watch a lot of Netflix and eat a lot of salsa con queso, I neglect the blog. I’m sorry that I’ve done it once again. I am attempting to get back to it, but I make no promises that I won’t, once again, be a blog flake.

It’s just my way, and I’m comfortable with it. I hope you understand and are inspired by my honesty enough to stick around.

While I was away, I was also living life. Here's a pic of the Death Cab for Cutie show I went to a couple of weeks ago.

In writing this, I’ve realized that “30 Day Notice” can also mean that I go through month by month phases of interest – so at least the title is staying true to me.

I now feel I sufficiently justified my flakiness. Now, onto the creating, learning and sharing.

Postcard Display Wall <3

IMG_20150414_181921I love collecting postcards. Anytime I go somewhere, I pick up at least one postcard, but often times more. I like the unique ones. The ones that speak up for the place I’m visiting outside of their skyline or landscape cliches.

Whenever a friend is going out of town, I ask them to pick one up for me if it’s not too much trouble.

My old roommie – you know who you are 😉 – and I had so many postcards between the two of us. She travels like crazy, so she had a lot of great ones that I didn’t have and vice versa. We made a collage on an empty wall in our apartment of postcards on postcards on postcards.

Since we’ve moved a part, I wanted to continue my postcard display. What’s the point of having such an awesome collection if I wasn’t going to show it off? But I didn’t want to just tape them to the wall. First of all, it looks tacky, and second of all it ruins the post cards. So I started, and still do, find as many different frames from thrift stores as I can that would fit a post card. They aren’t all a perfect fit. Sometimes I had to put construction paper behind the postcard so it didn’t show too much cardboard backing. Sometimes I had to fold a miniscule amount of the edges of the post card to fit it in. But there’s nothing like the feeling of when the postcard fits perfectly into the perfect frame. Bliss.

So now, I have a postcard display wall in my living room that I adore! I want to expand it more (I still have plenty to display and intend to collect more), but don’t want to overwhelm the space. I might have to switch out cards here and there to keep things flowing.

I know, however, that wherever I end up living in the future will definitly always have my postcard display =D

One Zentangle a Day: Days 10-14

So, I got a little backlogged on posting my Zentangles, but I feel a gallary rather than a post for each isn’t too bad. Here are days 10-14 (pt1 and pt2 for Day 14). Of this group, Day 13 is my favorite. I think the shading and lines are best show there. I, as always, had fun with each and the lessons focused on for each. Currently, I’m doing these on 3×3 tiles. I think I’ll probably go back to the sketch book, or purchase larger tiles in the future. There just isn’t enough space to play on such small tiles. I’ll probably keep them for small doodlings at work or just for play, but for bigger projects will call for a bigger page.

Still not completely comfortable with the white gel pens, especially on small areas as it’s easy to bleed, but we’ll become better friends as time goes by.

I need to practice/ get more tips on how to shade better. Any ideas?

Today’s Tangle Brought to you by… Tim Burton?

IMG_20150402_174305To be honest, I wasn’t really looking forward to, or at all interested in doing a tangle on black tile with white ink. In the examples in One Zentangle a Day, they just looked a little more sloppy and cheap. But, abiding by my personal goal to see things through, I ordered some black tiles, white gel pens, white charcoal pencils and white colored pencil. If I was going to do it, I was going to do it right with all the fixin’s.  Continue reading

New Tangle Tools Coming!

So far, I’ve just been using a no. 2 pencil with eraser, a fine point sharpie pen and a sketch book for my tiles. I’m moving on to Day 9 in One Zentangle a Day, which calls for a few more tools and black tiles. So I went a head and splurged on all the essentials on Amazon. I can’t wait to tangle with my new tools when they come in tomorrow! I’m hoping they inspire me to stay on top of this new skill and make it more legit than just doing the basics with the bare minimum.
